For this weeks blog post I present images from photographic shoots I made a couple of years ago of two of the famous Denmark Street, London's most renowned guitar luthiers: Andy Gibson & Tim Marten. Both of these guitar artesans provide miracle work for the instruments of the music industry's finest players & the serve the general public with equal verve. Working on everything from a simple (or complex) guitar set-up through customisations to complete re-builds, on new or vintage instruments, these are the guys who keep musicians tools working & performing for them year after year, often against all odds. I've had the pleasure (?) of working with & knowing these guys for many years. Here are a few snapshots of them in their workshops, repairing, reassembling, reanimating.

I worked in the guitar sales industry for approximately 13 years, dealing in both new, inexpensive instruments & old, pricey vintage ones. I sold thousands of instruments (not just guitars, but also ukeleles, mandolins, banjoes, etc), & although the job of a salesman is neither particularly exciting nor a lucrative career move, if you're a guitar player, selling the wonderful things yields all the opportunities to learn about their construction, component parts, personalities, stylings & histories.
